Black could have resigned at move 65, but she played, perhaps she wanted to take chance of oppnents mistake, and grab a pawn, then draw with other pawn.
ann rank 2491 good for champion...
Short formats favour the form holder while Long format generally favour norm holders !
SHES EPIC SHE CAN BEAT EVERY GIRL!!!CONGRATS
She used to have dark hair. She deserves to be congratulated. But we all know she is not the best female chess player right now. Even if you remove judit Polgar from the equation.
Congratualtions Anna Ushenina!! Anna Ushenina won using the system given to her - she is a deserving World Champion! No, it is definitely not the right system to select the best of the best. She actually is the "best" Game/25 player if you want to make a fine point of it. Its fun and it has a place - I think the Men's World Cup is very exciting. But this isn't the place - this is to determine the best player(s) in the universe. Game/25 - shame. This isn't tennis. A few games means very little, we all know that from our own games. Anyway long live Queen Ushenina she did what she had to do - nobody could ask for more from her. FIDE, shame, shame, what have you done to our game?
Well probably not the most objective system to determine the world champion but great for new faces to emerge. The other system is too conservative for a breakthrough - you can't play WC and Grand Prix if you don't have high enough ranking but it's very hard to get high ranking if you don't play enough, have no sponsors, no goverment support as in the case with Anna. A long and complicated qualification system would be expensive for most non-top players too. And I don't think it would be fair the top players playing only the latest stages - it's like in tennis Federer, Nadal... starting from QF in Grand slams. You have rankings to determine the best players, you have WC, GS to give a chance to the lesser but still very talented player to make a noticeable breakthrough and try to estabilish themselves between the best.
I really hope Anna will be able to estabilish herself too. No one is giving her a chance against Ifan now but no one was giving her a chance here either...actually there were bookies that were giving her 1:300 or so as far as I remember, I'm sure the odds vs Ifan will be much much lower
This format is going to test tactical and time handling ability more than sound positional play and patience. It's certainly more entertaining and even other sports like football, cricket, tennis etc,. adapt such knockout format.
No one can shake hands for a quick draw in this format and thus makes the games go to the wire and that is where the cool of player would be ultimately tested in the end (when in time pressure).I love this format although not as a defending champion !
Some comments here are bound to come from Kirsan's minions. The format was a joke.
Hooray for the new champion! WWC is far more prestigious than that other "title"; ladies are smarter ;)
A blond world champion ! cool. Knockout format is nice..brings out the best and the luckiest . That's why a IM is WCC ! Do it to Men's WCC !
nice format, brings out best of the best... do it to mens championship, Congratulations AnnA!!!
Bad format for a world championship. Longer time control and more long games needed. Not these tiebreak games.
Was this really for the world championship title? Right about move 55 black should have resigned with peace of mind in the second game. No, she had to be so disrespectful to her opponent making it to move 94. What a shame...
This makes good for chess. New masters appears..Good moves for new champion. Defensive game seems to come more popular among in highest rated players.
Um, Hou Yifan won her World Championship title in 2010 in the EXACT SAME FORMAT!
Next time have a 12 player RR for the championship please with several qualification RRs and top 3 o 4 all advance to final RR.
With this win i believe she earns the gm title by default
