Dmitry Jakovenko Wins In Poikovsky

The 13th Poikovsky Tournament in honour of Anatoly Karpov took place from 28 September - 7 October in Russia.

The tournament has had less media coverage than its strength might suggest, partly due to it clashing with several other big tournaments, and partly due to its own poor publicity.

The tournament was a 10-player single round-robin and Dmitry Jakovenko took first place with an undefeated score of 6/9, followed by top seed Ruslan Ponomariov in second with 5½/9.  England's Nigel Short had a disappointing tournament, finishing last with 3 points.

Adam35035 32...Kxf6 33.Qe5+ followed by 34.Rc7 looks good to me. The b-pawn will fall soon, too.

Stop it with the weak puns. The Short game was amazing. He made some great moves to gain initiative, but Black defended well.
