Gibraltar Masters Wide Open After 4 Rounds

After 4 rounds of the 2013 Tradewise Gibraltar Masters, only 4 players still have a perfect score.

Vietnamese GM Le Quang Liem is the only one of the 8 competitors rated above 2700 Elo to achieve a 4/4 score. The others are Nikita Vitiugov of Russia, Dariusz Swiercz of Poland, and Eduardo Iturrizaga of Venezuela.

Melia Salome of Georgia is the leading woman with 3½/4, just ahead of several other women on 3/4 including her compatriot Nana Dzagnidze and former women's world champion Antoaneta Stefanova of Bulgaria.

The official tournament website has full results, games, photos and videos.  There is also live coverage and commentary available. Rounds in the Masters competition start at 15:00 (14:00 UTC) every day except the final round which starts at 11:00 (10:00 UTC).

    @Aaronsky I stay clear to but I think its the prize money that makes them risk it. Rember its tough making a living in chess unless your in the top 50 of the world or something or unless your under 18 with and your at least a FM

    What is going on with  the TPR?

    Carlsen is a full point ahead and has a TPR shy of 3,000 whilst Le Quang Liem is 1/2 point ahead against significantly lower rated opposition.

    Still, hope Le Quang Liem wins :)

    Gibralta seems to be the home of ratings upsets. Perhaps it's home to a mafia that exerts undue gambling influence. ;)

    One thing's for sure, if I was a 2700 club male concerned with my rating, I'd steer clear of the tournament.
